Building a plan

Where do I start?

Open New Plan under Training. Pick Train for a race, or one of the other starts: No race right now, Start running, Coming back from a break or injury, or Build my own, for a plan a coach or a book gave you.

What does a race plan need?

The distance (5K, 10K, half marathon or marathon), the race and its date, and your goal time. Type the race name, or pick it from the list and the date fills in. You can also find a race under Find Races and press Use. Then choose how many days a week you run and your long run day.

Which plans are free?

Race plans for a 5K are free, and so are the plans without a race: keeping fit between races, start running and coming back from a break, and building your own plan. 10K, half marathon and marathon race plans are part of Premium.

How do I pick the peak weekly mileage?

Each tier is the most the plan asks of you in its biggest week, and under it you can see what it assumes you already run. Pick one close to what you run now, not what you hope to run. The plan length list only offers lengths that fit before your race date.

Why does it ask about my recent running?

Your weekly volume over the last four weeks, your longest run in the last 30 days and whether you have run the distance before let Dromotelo check the plan against where you are. If your activities are synced, these are filled in for you. The plan starts at its own weekly volume; the Before you start box points out anything that looks like too big a jump, and if you are well below the first week, build up before the plan begins or choose a lower peak.

Can I train by time instead of distance?

Yes. Turn on Show my plan in minutes before you generate the plan. Runs are then set in minutes, timed at the middle of each pace range. Intervals and hill repeats keep their distances, and race day is still the race distance.

Where do the paces come from?

For a race plan, from your goal race pace; for a plan without a race, from your recent training. They are ranges. Run anywhere in the range that feels right on the day. Click a workout to see its steps and what it is for.

How do I keep the plan?

Press Generate plan to see it, then Create Plan to save it. If you change a field afterwards, press Generate plan again. Saved plans are under My Plans, and each day shows on your Calendar.

Syncing your watch and apps

How do I connect a service?

Open your profile (your picture or initials at the top right) and go to Connected Services. Press Connect next to Garmin Connect, COROS, Strava, Polar, Intervals.icu or Google Health (in beta, for Fitbit and Pixel Watch).

Why does Garmin need a browser extension?

Garmin does not offer a simple connect button, so the first connect uses the free Dromotelo extension, on a computer, in Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera or Vivaldi. You sign in on Garmin's own page, and Dromotelo never sees your password. After that one step, everything works from any browser, your phone included.

What comes in once I connect?

Your finished activities, on their own. Press Sync now to fetch the latest straight away. Runs are matched to your plan by date, so each day shows what you ran next to what was planned. You can also upload .FIT, .TCX, .JSON or .ZIP files from your profile.

Can my workouts go to my watch?

Yes, to Garmin and to Intervals.icu. With Garmin connected, turn on Send my plan's workouts to Garmin automatically in your profile: the next 7 days of your plan stay on your Garmin calendar and watch, and follow any change you make. With Intervals.icu connected, each week of a plan you generate has a button that sends it there.

Units and language

Miles or kilometers?

In your profile, under Account Details, set Distance Units to Imperial (miles) or Metric (km) and press Save changes. Plans, paces and activities then show in those units.

How do I change the language?

Dromotelo is in English, Portuguese and Spanish. Pick one under Language in your profile: it changes straight away and follows you to every device. Before you sign in, the site uses the language for where you are.

What else can I set?

Your profile also holds the appearance (light, dark or matching your device) and your timezone.
